Useful Facts Without Opinions: Queensland welcomes interstate population shift
Once again the Australian Bureau of Stats has released their population data right in the middle of the State of Origin series! And again it records another boost to the maroon-wearing Queensland population at the expense of the Blues.
Today’s latest ABS data for the year ending December 2022 shows we had a massive 116,600 additions to our state’s numbers, with more than 34,000 of them coming from net interstate migration. NSW lost 31,500 to interstate moves and almost 10,000 Victorians left that state for a new life. Only a handful moved to WA with Queensland attracting plenty of moving trucks from our southern cousins.
The notable change in this latest data is the leap in net overseas migration, with 58,000 extras adding to the Queensland population during 2022. Like more and more Australians, these new arrivals are also choosing Queensland as their home!
