Useful Facts Without Opinions: Brisbane population growth
Australia’s population grew by 1.6% during the year to March 2019, according to the latest release from the ABS. That was a jump of 389,000 for a new total of 25.3 million people.
There were more than half a million overseas arrivals in just 12 months and net overseas migration accounted for almost 2-thirds of our population rise.
Queensland’s population grew 1.8% over the year, adding another 88,100 maroon jersey wearers. This made us the 2nd fastest growing state and the highest for interstate migration. New arrivals to Aus might start in the southern states but Aussies follow the sun north eventually!
Meantime the ABS forecast Greater Brisbane’s population to grow from 2.4 million in 2017 to between 2.9 million and 3.0 million in 2027. They project the proportion of Queensland’s population living in Greater Brisbane to increase from 49% in 2017 to 55% by 2066.
