The gentlemen of Bees Nees City Realty have joined the national Movember campaign, sacrificing their professional appearances and usually clean-shaven faces in the name of charity.

And for each property sold by the Bees Nees team in November we’re donating $500 to the campaign. If you’re considering selling why not give us a call on 07 3214 6800? Or if you’d like to contribute to our team’s fundraiser please click through to our donation page.

Each year Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in Australia and around the world, with the sole aim of raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.

If you have surfed the Meet Our Team page of our website, www.beesnees.com.au – you may have read that our Operations Manager Clint has been known to compete in short course triathlons and other events requiring a certain level of fitness.

Well it has been a while since his last competition (two years in fact) and he felt a little embarrassed about his lack of activity. So in his wisdom, or a moment of craziness has just entered himself into the Half Marathon in this year’s Brisbane Running Festival to be held soon in Brisbane’s inner city. Not just content with putting just himself through weeks of training leading up to the event, he has managed to rope his wife Anita and best friend Sandra into entering as well.

Entrants into the Running Festival are encouraged to fund raise for a charity of their choice and we thought it a great opportunity to support one of favourite charities – ACT for kids.

ACT for Kids is an Australian charity that is dedicated to the treatment and prevention of child abuse. More than 60,000 individual children are affected by child abuse in Australia every single year. That’s a child every 10 minutes who is suffering a form of abuse. ACT for Kids not only provides care for the children but also helps support the family unit that is affected by domestic violence.

We have set a fund raising goal of $1000 and would like your help to smash this total. So please help with this great cause and click through the donation page.

It’s one of those rare times you see the soul of a community – the local school fete! Last Sunday was Queensland Day and West End State School marked the date with their annual “Fiesta”.

The crowds were great, soaking up the live music, international foods and plenty of games and rides for kids.

My kids voted the strawberry and marshmellow sticks (dipped in chocolate) the best they’d ever had!

You’ve got to take your hats off to the parents who volunteer to organise these sort of days. An enormous task!

We’re delighted to announce that three new real estate professionals have joined the ownership team of Bees Nees. Operations Manager Clint Dowdell-Smith, who has been with Bees Nees since its opening in 2006; and more recent addition Annie von Rudzinski, Manager of our Property Management team.

Rob and Keryn Honeycombe established the agency in 2006 and said they’re excited to have key staff members joining them in the ownership team. “Each of them has shown they understand great client service. They set a terrific example for their teams and we’re really pleased to welcome them as joint owners in the agency.”

Queensland Ballet West EndBees Nees are proud to sponsor the Queensland Ballet and as a thankyou for reading our blog we’d like to offer a lucky reader 2 tickets to attend the upcoming “Moving Stories”.

One of the magical things about ballet is the way dancers convey stories without words. So just how does a choreographer translate words into movement? This question will be answered in a special Vis-a-vis Moving Stories presentation at the QPAC Playhouse on Wednesday, April 21, where QB Artistic Director and Chief Choreographer Francois Klaus will take an in-depth look at ballets which are based on existing works of literature.

With additional input from the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble, Francois will give a unique insight into the creative process of communicating a story through dance. Vis-a-vis Moving Stories is a one-show-only event, so just email info@beesnees.com.au with “Ballet tickets” and your phone number in the subject line – before April 8th. Good luck!

Of course if you want to make doubly sure you have a seat book now to avoid disappointment!

It was a landmark night for Brisbane with the long-awaited Clem 7 tunnel opening to traffic around 11.30pm last night. One of our team was on the spot to be one of the first through and he captured this video.

And no, this isn’t normal driving speed, the trip takes over 4 minutes but we’ve sped things up a little – it is just a tunnel!

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman is wearing a big smile today and he deserves praise. His election promise in 2004 was to get serious about inner Brisbane traffic and his “Transapex” masterplan  is about diverting cars around our CBD. The 4.8km Clem 7 tunnel is the first step and in skipping 24 sets of traffic lights its impact on our inner city will be significant.

Watch next for the opening in June of Hale Street Link, now called the Go Between Bridge. It’s about time Brisbane had these sort of solutions.

Spring Hill residents are all invited to the Spring Hill Neighbourhood party!!!!! Which is on this Saturday 12th December 2009, at Bedford Playground which is located on the Cnr of Love St and Water St, Spring Hill from 4PM – 7 PM.

It’s our chance to catch up with old neighbours as well as meeting new ones and it will provide an event that the whole family can enjoy. For those residents that are regular readers of my blog please say hello to me in person on Saturday – it would be great to meet you and if you could also spread the word of the event to others that would be fantastic, the more the merrier.

If you require further information regarding this event please call Ashley on 0401 187 072 who is the hardworking lady that is putting a lot of her spare time into making this event a success.

Longer term locals will remember the 2 day “Spring Hill Fair” in Water Street that ran each September for many years .  Let’s hope this new event might be the start of a regular get together for residents!

Bees Nees company chairman Boris this week helped out with the 2009 graduation at one of our local kindy’s – Mater Childcare in South Brisbane. Thanks to Julia and the Realscope Photography team we were able to give all the kids a complimentary photo of themselves with our sexy bee!

Boris loves to get out and about in our local patch. If you have a community event coming up we’d be happy to bring him along to entertain the kids.

Grammar schoolWhilst doing my rounds in beautiful Spring Hill today I stumbled across some real estate signage which I believe most residents, especially of Gregory Terrace, will find of interest.

At first I thought surely not, one of Brisbane’s most highly respected educational establishments up for sale!!? On further investigation it was simply Year 12 students having a bit of fun. All students past and present, parents of students and also teachers can breathe a huge sigh of relief as business I am assured will continue as normal.

Maybe real estate agents should be concerned as there appears to be some real estate talent from the Year 12 ready to start in the industry!
