Get your dancing shoes on and head down to Rio Rhythmics on Boundary St for “Carnaval” in West End. Coinciding with the largest party in Brazil, you can join in the street parade, samba lessons, and after party! Watch Rio’s Carnaval parade on the big screen. Sounds like a fun night out with a difference!

Real Estate Agents love to quote a building as being “tightly held” but here’s one that actually is!  “Silhouette” in Boundary Street South Brisbane has had just 3 reported sales since late 2007 (which is a rare thing for a building with 57 apartments!) – here’s what they were:

  • Lot 116 sold in Nov 2008 for $540,000
  • Lot 118 sold in March 2008 for $565,000
  • Lot 319 in November 2007 for $900,000

If you’d like to know what’s sold recently in your building email us at info@beesnees.com,au – we”d be happy to help!

Typically West End, Libertine Parfumerie stands out from the crowd on Hardgrave Rd. After years of travel and with a passion for fragrances these guys have built a destination store offering a memorable experience over and above the quality of the products they sell. They run group courses to educate the senses, so your nose knows why it likes what you’re smelling and they boast exclusive supply of their lines.

West End Community Association is considering an offer by Aria Property International to resolve its Planning and Environment Court appeal against its 16 storey development at South Brisbane. Broadly speaking, I believe new development in the evolving South Brisbane precinct is a good thing – but I’m not convinced we need more studio apartments as promised by the Aria proposal.  They’ve proven a hard product to move in the past, despite offering relatively good rental returns.  What’s needed is a building mix of 1 and 2 bedrooms (both with carparks please!) and plenty of visitor parking.  What do you think?!

Sacked St Mary’s local Father Kennedy remains defiant, saying he has the support of his congregation and will ignore the direction of the Church with a campaign of peaceful disobedience starting on February 20.   Quoted in today’s City South News, Father Kennedy says “I intend from that night on to sleep in the choir loft” and encourages others to join him.

Whilst it’s not brand spanking new anymore, Richard Kirk Architects continue to receive mentions for their award winning design in Highgate Hill. This home’s located on a heavily sloping block (mountain goat country) most of us wouldn’t dream of building on – but they’ve managed to build 3 levels with style. Just off Dornoch Terrace, where you can see more of their work, it’s on one of Brisbane’s steepest streets. Interestingly, their external design intentionally used timbers which will grey so that the colour scheme will come of age over time.

West End Community Association (WECA) has won their first court case against Aria Property International who wanted to build a 16-storey residential tower on the old Cutting Edge site in Edmondstone Street, South Brisbane.  WECA had raised $15,000 to fight Aria’s proposed development in Brisbane’s latest urban renewal hotspot.  Whilst we’re sure WECA members will rejoice their win for sometime, it’ll be interesting to see what’ll happen next once development conditions improve post economic slow down.
