Landlord Seminar

New challenges for Landlords...

a new tenancies act, new rights for tenants and an uncertain market. What's the future hold for Brisbane landlords?

Thanks for visiting our seminar info page. This seminar was held in mid May 2009 but if you'd like to read the notes from our presenters click through to our Landlord blog.

On July 1st the Residential Tenancies Act will be thrown out and replaced, with new rights for tenants including challenging rent rises, longer eviction processes and an option to refuse open houses at your property. Meanwhile property prices are stagnating and rents have started to flatten.

Hear some insight into how these changes will affect Brisbane landlords over the next two years.

Tim Lawless

Tim Lawless is the National Research Director of RP Data. An outstanding career in property analytics has earned Tim a reputation around the country as a leading expert on the residential property market.  Tim's ability to analyse market trends and provide succinct and relevant data can be seen daily in the national media and heard at the many seminars he speaks at around Australia.

Tim will share his insight into the inner Brisbane property market, where we're at right now and where we're heading. What are prices and rents doing, are there enough rental homes to meet demand and what can landlords expect next. With Australia's most respected property transactions database at his fingertips Tim is well-placed to give property owners an accurate and up to the minute look at the market.

Fergus Smith

Fergus Smith BSc, GAICD, MA, MBA - appointed General Manager of the Residential Tenancies Authority in 2006 Fergus has brought strong leadership skills to the role and an extensive knowledge of the housing sector. From 2002 to 2006, he was the RTA's Manager of Corporate and Investigation Services. He earlier worked with the Department of Housing and Queensland Treasury Corporation.

The new Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act takes effect from July 1st and the RTA has spent more than 2 years preparing. Fergus will give an overview of the changes, how they impact on landlords and share why some issues needed to be addressed with new legislation. As head of the Authority he's responsible for overseeing more than 400,000 Queensand tenancies, so you'll hear insight from someone who's dealing with these topics every day.

This event is hosted by local agency, Bees Nees City Realty. But the seminar is for information only - there will not be any sales presentation or property offered for sale on the night!

Why? There's plenty of real estate seminars you can go along to if you want to buy a property. We think these changes to the Act and the current market uncertainty are issue landlords want to hear about - from credible sources.
