There’s an indisputable connection between employment locations and real estate demand. Clear data shows home owners and tenants want easy access to their workplace. So where are Queensland’s biggest employment centres? At a recent REIQ conference, demographer Bernard Salt produced the following top 10 list (as at the 2016 census).

  1. Brisbane City: 122,400
  2. Brisbane Airport: 28,000
  3. South Brisbane: 27,600
  4. Rocklea – Acacia Ridge: 23,300
  5. Fortitude Valley: 22,000
  6. Cairns City: 22,000
  7. Newstead – Bowen Hills: 20,200
  8. Ormeau – Yatala: 18,600
  9. Toowoomba Central: 18,200
  10. Kelvin Grove – Herston: 16,700
