New record sale price for Brisbane
Brisbane’s house sale record was broken in style this week, with the reported $11million plus sale of the Anglican Church’s hilltop mansion at Hamilton. Our most expensive on record was the 2003 sale of a Fig Tree Pocket riverfront home for $8.2million. Now a young Brisbane family have rattled out their piggy bank for the 5597m2 (1½ acre) “Bishopsbourne”, built in 1869 and home to Archbishops since 1964. The majestic home commands sweeping views of the river and city.
The Church was obviously happy with the result – they accepted the bid just days shy of the expression of interest campaign closing, leaving some fairly disgruntled buyers.
Brisbane’s inner city continues to show plenty of thirst for top end homes: Hamilton recorded a $6.4m sale last year and its median house sale price is now nudging through $1million.
