While last week’s cricket international at the Gabba filled the stadium (who doesn’t enjoy watching a drubbing of the Poms?!) Brisbanites have also been lending their support to a couple of local sporting teams. They mightn’t command the same media attention but the Queensland Roar, our Frank Farina coached A-League soccer team, drew a crowd of 32,000 to Saturday’s game at Suncorp Stadium. Despite a solid season they’re now out of the finals running for this year.
No such problems for the Brisbane Bullets who sit at the top of the National Basketball League after an amazing 12 game winning streak. They’ve won 22 of 27 games this season. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen finals basketball in Brissy but with just a couple of regular games left (last local game against the Kiwi Breakers on Feb 3
rd) there’s likely to be some good finals fun to be had at the Convention Centre in a few weeks time.
